Atrial Fibrillation (AF) affects 100 million people worldwide. People with AF have a significant risk of stroke and death and need treatment urgently. However, recurrence after treatment is still not optimal and 20% will have recurrence within one year and 75% within 5 yrs. More accurate and reliable treatments are needed. Today, there are two dominant technologies for treating these patients: Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) and Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), both delivered by a cardiologist or electrophysiologist via catheter. Ablation catheters, today, are used blindly and without the ability to see target tissue as it is treated or assessed in real-time for quality and durability of these treatments.

Introducing MedLumics AblaView ®

MedLumics is a Madrid based start-up company developing the world’s first patented RFA and PFA catheter system with fiberoptic real-time vision. This system enables cardiologists to watch tissue as it’s being treated, improving accuracy, reliability and safety. We have completed an initial 10-patient clinical study with 3-month follow-up and the system works as designed with 100% predictive lesion durability.

AblaView® – Three key components come together for direct real-time visualization of AF ablation. All mechanical, electrical, hardware, firmware and software are being developed and manufactured by the experienced MedLumics management and manufacturing teams.

1. Ablation Catheter: Single-use disposable, dual-energy capable ablation catheter with integral fiber optics to project and receive laser light for analysis of tissue treatment in real time.

2. Optical Console:  designed and developed to be a unique laser light projector, receiver and OCR processor, delivering real-time visual data as tissue treatment is delivered. The Optical Console can switch between and control two types of ablation energy (RFA and PFA).

3. RF and PF Generator:  controlled by the optical console for delivering ablation energy as directed by the electrophysiologist.
